How Villa Loriana Became a Top Choice for Nonprofit Events in San Luis Obispo

Villa Loriana ballroom set up for a nonprofit gala in San Luis Obispo

Our story began in 2013, when we hosted our first wedding on what was then Loriana Ranch. Today, Villa Loriana welcomes nonprofit organizations planning galas, fundraisers, and other events in San Luis Obispo. If your board is searching for a space that feels elevated without feeling stiff, here is what an evening at Villa Loriana actually looks like, and why so many organizations keep coming back to us.

Villa Loriana in San Luis Obispo hosts nonprofit galas and fundraisers for up to 300 guests on a 30-acre family-owned estate, with events flowing from cocktails on the renovated Pavilion patio into the grand Villa ballroom for dinner and program, supported by an on-site venue manager during a five-hour event block. An open vendor policy allows organizations to bring their own caterer, alcohol service runs through a licensed caterer with a built-in bar, and on-site accommodations for up to 18 guests are available for out-of-town attendees.

Hosting Your Nonprofit Gala at Villa Loriana

Every gala we host carries the same character, whether the guest list is fifty people or three hundred. Our stone architecture, oak groves, and grounds give your evening a setting that feels established rather than staged. We built this estate as a family, and that shows in how we run each event, from the first guest through the arrival to the closing remarks. Below is what your committee can expect when planning a gala on our property.

A Family Story Behind Every Event

Villa Loriana is family-owned and operated, and our Villa Loriana story began with Rob and Lori Gillespie. We held our first wedding in 2013 under a tent on what was then Loriana Ranch. A fire took the early structures, and rather than walk away, our family rebuilt. The estate reopened as Villa Loriana in 2018.

Italian villa with stone turret at Villa Loriana in San Luis Obispo

We sit on 30 acres in San Luis Obispo, within reach of Edna Valley, though our property itself is a private estate, not a vineyard. Today, our two-story Italian villa features a stone turret and arched windows, creating a distinctive setting for nonprofit events on the Central Coast.

Arrival, Cocktails, and the Program

Your guests typically begin the evening on the Pavilion, our newly renovated cocktail patio. Ten-foot stone arches wrap the space, and greenery, vines, and water spouts run throughout it, so the setting does not need much added on top. From there, the evening moves into our grand Villa ballroom for dinner, remarks, and whatever your committee has planned for the program.

Villa chandeliers and landscape accent lighting carry that same warmth from the patio into the ballroom, so the transition feels intentional rather than abrupt. Your event includes one day of access with a five-hour event block, and a venue manager is available on site to support smooth coordination.

Room to Grow Your Guest List

We can host up to 300 guests, which gives a large fundraiser plenty of breathing room without losing the feel of a private estate. Our park lawns, shaded by oak trees, give your committee extra space for check-in tables, a silent auction display, or overflow mingling before guests move indoors.

Food and Beverage on Your Terms

We keep an open vendor policy, so your organization can bring in the caterer of your choice rather than choosing from a fixed list. Wine, beer, and spirits are welcome when served through a licensed caterer, and our built-in bar with kegerator is ready for service.

Our covered and lit catering patio connects with an indoor prep kitchen that includes refrigeration, giving your catering team dedicated space to prepare and serve your event.

What Comes With Your Booking

Tables, chairs, and additional specialty rental items are available for your event. Rental fees include setup, breakdown, and applicable taxes. Guests have access to multiple restrooms throughout the villa, paved parking for up to 90 vehicles, and complimentary Wi-Fi for both guests and vendors.

For organizations bringing guests or team members from out of town, on site accommodations are available across our suites and cottage for up to 18 guests.

Conclusion

A gala or fundraiser only works when your guests feel taken care of, and your committee is not scrambling behind the scenes. That is the standard we set for ourselves when we rebuilt this estate, and it is the standard we hold for every nonprofit event we host.
